You know what’s the best thing to do during the winter? Plan a summer vacation of course! Imagine a place where the desert meets the sea…a place embellished with picturesque beaches, luxury spas and amazing natural wildlife. Sounds too good to be true? Well, pack your bags, ‘cause we’re going to Mexico, baby!

But first, let’s check out the 10 most important things to know when traveling to Los Cabos:

1. The Tale of Two Cities.

First and foremost, let’s get one thing straight: Los Cabos is actually a municipality, located right at the tip of Baja California Peninsula. At the heart of this Peninsula, there are two towns: Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Now, if you’re looking for a good party and some excitement, the first destination is the place to be; on the other hand, if you’re simply craving some me, myself and I time, then the latter is a far better choice.

2. Declaration Slip.

Whether you’re coming by plane or ship, once you enter Mexico, you’ll be required to complete an entry form. It’s crucial to remember to keep that slip with you at all times! You’ll need it to leave the country…if you ever decide to leave that is!

3. What to Do, Where to Go?

One thing is certain – you won’t have a dull moment in Los Cabos. Sports fishing is by far the most popular activity in this Mexican paradise, but golf, snorkeling, kayaking and whale watching will make your vacation an unforgettable experience. I stayed at the Hacienda Encantada Resort and Residences and would definitely recommend their amazing accommodations for fun in the sun, views of the ocean and a phenomenal infinity pool to lounge in all day.

4. Habla Español?

Don’t fret if the only thing you know how to say in Spanish is Gracias. Los Cabos is a popular tourist destination with around 2 million visitors every year and most of those tourists come from Canada and the US. You can get by pretty easily speaking only English.

5. Sharing is Caring.

Except when it isn’t. Timeshare sellers can be found on every corner and they are very persistent. So, activate your full paparazzi mode, put on some sunglasses and a hat and run! Or you can just ignore them, whatever suits you best.

6. Safety First.

Contrary to popular belief, Los Cabos is quite safe for travelers. This doesn’t mean that you should run around the city waving a bundle of cash while singing Macarena though.

7. Let’s Hit the Beach!

To be fair, the stunning, heavenly beaches are the main reason to visit Los Cabos! Although there’s more than plenty of mesmerizing sand shores, keep in mind that not all of them are swimmable. Inspired by the turbulent waters and heavy undertows, the locals named one of the beaches Divorce Beach. It’s even funnier once you realize that right on the other side there’s the calm, smooth-sailing Lover’s Beach.

8. Bustling Nightlife.

One of the best ways to experience the Cabo nightlife is to join a bar crawl! Dazzling lights, colorful cocktails and great music are a perfect recipe for an un(forgettable) party.

9. Money, Money, Money.

You’ve finished your last margarita, you pull out your wallet and realize that you forgot to exchange your money for the local currency. Don’t worry! The great thing about Los Cabos is that American dollars are widely accepted everywhere. So, sit down, relax and order another one!

10. Authentic Food.

There’s nothing wrong with munching on Taco Bell every now and then, but this is the perfect opportunity to experience some authentic Mexican cuisine! Los Cabos is mostly famous for its seafood, so clams, tuna and shark are an indispensable part of every meal. Of course, if this isn’t right up your alley, chicken tamales, vegetarian tacos and all you can eat salsa is always a good choice.

Ready to experience the hidden gem of Mexico? Remember to pack lightly, as it’s summer all year round. Vamos a la Playa!
