It's time to go through your closets and clear the clutter because a Glimmer Drive is on the way to New York City! Donate your previously treasured (or even better - never used) items to support Project Glimmer, an amazing 501c(3) national nonprofit, and the at-risk teenage girls and young women they serve! I discovered this amazing nonprofit this year when I was asked to speak during their "Day of Empowerment" event, where young girls spent an entire day learning how to shine with confidence, achieve their dreams, and believe in themselves. We're talking makeovers, support with Linkedin profiles and resume writing, professional photos, and an inspiring panel discussion! After spending the afternoon with these young women, I knew I wanted to help in any way that I could. With only 50% of foster youth graduating from high school and a mere 3% from college, now is the time to empower girls!
I left the event feeling so empowered that I immediately decided to organize my own Glimmer Drive, a collection of new (or like-new) gifts like a toy drive, except Project Glimmer collects jewelry, accessories, heat styling tools, makeup/beauty products, journals, water bottles, gift cards and more. I'm collaborating with Winky Lux (one of my favorite cosmetics brands ever!) to hold an in-person drive in New York City on Tuesday, July 31st at the Winky Lux Clubhouse from 6pm to 8pm and I would absolutely love to see your beautiful faces there!
Since Project Glimmer was founded in 2009, the organization has given more than a whopping 200,000 gifts to women and girls through over 200 community partners in 30 US states. Project Glimmer now gives gifts for Mother’s Day, birthdays, graduations, holidays and more. Phenomenal, right? See below for how you can help!
Preparing your donations for 7/31 NYC delivery:
Please bring or send an itemized list of what you will be donating so we can tally our total at the end of the evening and for your personal tax deduction purposes.
For Jewelry:
New or gently used; all jewelry should be ready to box as a beautiful gift. If any items are tarnished, please give them a quick polish! Earrings should be delivered in pairs, with backs. Place each item in a Ziploc plastic bag (snack size) to prevent tangling.
For Purses & Handbags:
New or gently used; please inspect them to make sure they are in good condition and the interior is clean -- no chewing gum inside, please!
For Heat Styling Tools:
New or gently used; please inspect them to make sure they are in good condition.
For Makeup, Beauty Products, & Fragrances:
Only new, unopened items will be accepted.
For Gift Cards:
Easy! Just slip them into an envelope labeled "Gift Cards."
